Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot Clos Pitois
Domaine Roger Belland
CLOS PITOIS is a famous Clos wine that goes back as far as one can remember when Monks created it in 1421. It is served at the most prestigious gastronomic meals such as Embassy meals. It is a MONOPOLY OF THE DOMAINE. The overall global area of the CLOS PITOIS is about 3 Hectares, half of which is planted with Chardonnay grapes and half with Pinot Noir grapes.
Grass is sown between the vines and as from the month of July the leaves overlapping the grapes are removed to let the sun get at them. The grapes are harvested MANUALLY and the sorting of the grapes is done in the vines in a very strict way.
After a cold decanting process, the fermentation is traditionally done using controlled temperatures, half in new oak barrels and half in one year old barrels.
The bottling is exclusively done at the DOMAINE.
GRAPE VARIETY : Exclusively 50 year old CHARDONNAY vines.
SURFACE AREA : 1.44 ha of Chardonnay vines.
PRODUCTION : 8000 bottles per year
TERROIR : fairly stony clay-limestone soil.
The wine is golden with green flashes, and a light straw colour. A honey bouquet with touches of toasted bread and exotic fruit. On the palate it is very round with a slight touch of vanilla and has the charm of its fat, typical of the Morgeot wine, with a slight acidity that gives a good balance to the wine
CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET MORGEOT CLOS PITOIS wine is ideal served with smoked salmon, scallops or sea bass.
